The Highland Park High School Color Guard
What is The Guard? The Guard plays a vital role in the visual element and pageantry of the HPHS band program. Guard combines the art of music, classical ballet, modern dance, choreography, and theater all while spinning flags, rifles, and sabers at the same time. Known as a “sport of the arts”, guard is quickly become a highly competitive and social activity throughout the country and the world, even holding World Championships since 1976. Who can be in The Guard? Anyone. You need no previous dance or spinning experience or any musical training to join. Our guard staff will teach and train all those who are interested in being part of this fun and growing activity. When does The Guard meet? The Guard is a year-round activity. In the fall, The Guard “marches” with the HPHS Highlander Marching Band. Sometimes referred to as The Colorguard, this group adds to the overall general effect of the marching show. At the end of the season, The Guard continues to meet through spring, creating an indoor show for competition called winterguard. Please visit www.wgi.org for more information. Want to join? Have any questions? Please click here to email us.
